Closed cell foams have a wide variety of uses. Unlike the typical urethane foam, closed cell foams are 100% waterproof and buoyant. The characteristics of closed cell foams allow them to be used in unique applications.
Our EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) foam comes in a 2.0 pound density and is charcoal gray in color. EVA has many uses such as thermal insulation, sound insulation (predominately for engine compartments), and padding. We recommend EVA for all of the above, however this material excels in offering great padding and protection in very modest amounts. EVA is not a rigid material, it is extremely durable under compression and it is very flexible. It can be wrapped, rolled and folded around almost any object. As mentioned before, EVA offers great padding and protection against any hard object. It is commonly used to pad hard blunt items such as fireplace masonry giving protection to wondering toddlers, or for cushioning a hard floor when exercising. EVA foam will offer more protection than virtually any other foam and it will give that protection with half the thickness. If your objective is to provide efficient padding and protection for or from hard materials, EVA is what you need.
Our XPE (Cross-Linked PolyEthylene) foam comes in a 2.0 pound density and is natural (off-white) in color. Like the EVA, XPE will offer great padding, however it does not wear as well under compression. Due to its high buoyancy it is commonly used for flotation applications such as floating hot tub and pool covers. |
